The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale Participates in The Grid Iron Grill-Off for 7th Year in a Row

This past Saturday, November 11, 2017 15-20 culinary students in the Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry programs from The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale participated in the annual Grid Iron Grill-Off and Wine Festival for the 7th year in a row. The Grid Iron-Grill Off, held at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater, teams up the top chefs in South Florida with NFL legends like Zach Thomas and Sam Madison for a fun fundraising event. 3,000 attendees pay to sample grilled delights from the Chef/NFL teams, and to fundraise for John Offerdahl’s Hand-Off Foundation with the mission to “Feed the Need of Those in Crisis."

Chef Kane and Chef Ray oversaw their students as they assisted restaurants’ Chefs in grilling, serving and preparing the food. They worked with big name Chefs like Chef Rick Schwager of Pompano Beach House with Football player Jim Jenson, and Chef David Hackett of The Biltmore Hotel’s restaurant Palme D’Or Fontana with his athletic teammate, Louis Oliver. Winners of the Grill-Off were awarded trophies in a ceremony set to the musical backdrop of the band Hyrze.
