(Miami, August 2015) Ten fashion students from Miami International University of Art & Design and The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale were asked to design costumes inspired by the show Varekai by Cirque du Soleil.  The competition was featured in the Miami Herald, Examiner.com and SouthFlorida.com

Fashion students were required to adhere to strict guidelines by the wardrobe costume Director and Varekai executive team. The costumes had to fit the acrobatic and design elements of the show and be washable, flexible and easy to breathe in. The designs were reviewed and judged by the Cirque Du Soleil team and the winner announced at a special V.I.P day for the students on August 19, 2015.

Students got a behind-the-scenes tour and learned about what it takes to maintain Cirque du Soleil along with a Q&A with Vareka’s head of wardrobe, Collette Livingston. Their illustrations will be seen on stage during the performance.
