(Fort Lauderdale, September 2015)  The Team Media class in the Media Arts Department at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale continues a long tradition of giving back to our local community.  This spring 14 students from four different areas of study (Digital Film, Photography and Special Effects) donated writing, shooting, interviewing, editing and effects services for a local food bank.  "Food is Medicine" was an 8 minute video that raises awareness of the Poverello Center services.  Since 1988 the Poverello Center has provided life-saving food and basic essentials for low-income, Broward County residents living with HIV/AIDS.  They serve over 1.2 million meals a year and operate a food bank, thrift store, Health and Wellness center as well as conducting HIV outreach education.

The "Food is Medicine" video has helped raise over $100,000 since June at fundraisers including a black tie gala and the "Bowling to Fight Hunger" event .  Poverello Public Relations Director, Kevin Clevenger, said the video was instrumental in raising more money than any past year.
