During the talk, Butta addressed audio production students about the industry and his career path. He also gave advice on how to get ahead in the radio business. Butta emphasized the importance of networking and internships—and he recommended that students take the time to get to know a station before applying for a job. He suggested that they listen to every part of a broadcast—from the music to the commercials and everything in between—to get a feel for the station’s brand. Spending this time helps to prepare an on-target demo reel.

Butta added that internships allow students to gain hands-on experience while learning how everything works in a station. And he stated that peers at school can become future industry contacts.

Butta broadcasts on 93.5 KDAY from 3-7 pm, worldwide on the internationally syndicated World Chart Show.
