Was there a defining moment when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?
I just always loved to redesign and figure things out creatively. I built a go-cart out of a lawnmower when I was nine—and my dad’s still mad at me. Since then I’ve designed & developed over 500 toys and products and worked with some of the best companies in the world.
What class assignment exemplifies your approach to teaching and mentoring?
My teaching technique is imagination. Everything around you is worthy of exploration. The desire and love for what you do—make it part of your life. The skills, experience, and wisdom will come in time.
How does collaboration contribute to students’ success—particularly when students from various programs work together?
Collaboration is the key to creativity. It’s a great opportunity for students to learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses.
What’s the most important thing you impart to students to help them succeed in class and the real world?
Be prepared. And manage your time creatively and efficiently.
