HOUSTON, Texas (Jan. 20, 2018) – Angélica María and Angélica Vale, two of Mexico’s most recognized artists, joined Juanita’s Foods and The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes to announce the winner of Juanita’s Vive la Tradición Homemade Menudo Contest in Texas. Josie Salinas was named Texas Queen of Homemade Menudo and received a brand new Kia Soul during an event at The Art Institute of Houston today.

“Carrying on traditions is deeply embedded in the history of our company and our family,” said Aaron De La Torre, CEO of Juanita’s, maker of the #1 selling menudo in the U.S. “It’s rewarding to know that our commitment to preserving Mexican culinary traditions is shared by the culinary experts of The Art Institutes and by everyone who competed in Juanita’s Menudo Contest.”
As part of the contest, participating Texas home cooks faced each other in one of three regional cook-offs in Houston, McAllen and San Antonio. Each of the three regional finalists received $1,000 and advanced to the grand finale in Houston, where they prepared their respective menudo entrées from scratch for a panel of judges that included culinary experts from Juanita’s and The Art Institutes, as well as Spanish-language television presenter – and menudo lover – Raul Brindis.

“Food is such an important part of our Latino culture and family life,” said Angélica María, mistress of ceremonies at the Houston grand finale. Her daughter, actress Angélica Vale, added, “Now that I’m a mom, too, I appreciate even more the value of passing important Mexican culinary traditions like menudo to the next generation of foodies!”
