Houston Interior Design Team Takes Home Product Runway Award

A team of students working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from The Art Institute of Houston recently took part in the 10th anniversary show of Product Runway, called Meet Me at the Met. The event featured a competition between architecture and design firms and colleges with interior design programs. Each competitive group created hand-made garments using only items provided by interior design industry labels.

Materials for The Art Institute of Houston’s team were donated by Steelecase and Mohawk. The team was tasked with designing a couture garment utilizing items such as tile or carpet backing. The students’ hard work paid off and they were awarded the title of “Student Best in Show.” Last year, The Art Institute of Houston earned “Best Performance.”

The Art Institute of Houston team included current students Laura Baxter, Firdaus Massoud, Ekaterina Groznaya, Xaquira Vital, and Rima Nasr. Additional assistance was provided by Damian Cajide, who is working toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design and Mark Zamora, who is working toward a Bachelor of Science in Audio Production.
