Former Instructor Wins Grammy for Best Opera Recording

Brad Sayles, a former instructor in the Audio Production degree program at The Art Institute of Houston, received a Grammy Award for the Best Opera Recording during the 60th Annual Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden on January 28, 2018 in New York City.

Sayles was awarded the Best Opera Recording Grammy for his work as a Co-Producer and Recording Engineer on "Berg: Wozzeck" for the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Sayles accepted the award on-stage at the Premiere Ceremony along with conductor Hans Graf.

Sayles has been working in the audio production industry for over 20 years and has achieved many impressive accomplishments. His various jobs have included working as an Audio Engineer for NASA and as an Executive Producer for Houston Public Media. Across his roles, Sayles has produced and engineered recordings for the Texas Guitar Quartet, Fidelis Quartet, composer Anthony Brandt, composer and Jazz pianist Gary Norian, vocalist Bryan Anthony, and other world-class musicians. In 2006, his score for the Houston Public Television special “Art is All Around Us” was nominated for an Emmy.

Sayles taught in the Bachelor of Science in Audio Production degree program at The Art Institute of Houston from 2010 to 2015.
