Houston Grad Reynold Darthard is H-E-B Quest for Texas’ Best Finalist

Reynold Darthard, better known in Sugarland, Texas as Chef Rey, is a Houston-area finalist in H-E-B’s Quest for Texas’ Best competition. Rey is known for his cheesecakes, which he makes in flavors from strawberry, to raspberry, chocolate swirl, and sweet potato.
Darthard, who in 2004 earned an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts from The Art Institute of Houston, will compete for up to $25,000 in prize money. H-E-B’s competition was created to find new products to introduce to shoppers at the Texas-based supermarket chain.
Contestants will compete August 9-10 in Austin, Texas. Winners will earn an award as well as the chance to use the H-E-B's "Texas Best" Primo Picks label on ther products. The grand prize winner also will receive a Toyota Tundra.
More than 700 entrepreneurs from 140 towns and cities across Texas applied to be a part of the competition. The final contestants will be judged on quality, marketability and product readiness.
