Juanita's Menudo Contest

The Art Institute of Houston will serve as a regional tasting location for the “Celebrating the Mexican Tradition of Menudo” culinary competition sponsored by Juanita’s Foods.

Menudo is a Mexican soup with broth and a red chili pepper base. Additional ingredients may include lime, onions, hominy, oregano and cilantro.

Anyone may participate in the contest—from budding culinary artists to people in the community who just love to cook as a hobby. A panel of chefs will taste the menudo submissions and select three finalists, who will be awarded $1,000 each. Those finalists will go on to compete at the state level competition at The Art Institute of Houston on January 20, 2018. The top-level prize, King or Queen of Menudo, is a new Kia Soul.

Interested? Then fill out the entry form at Juanita’s Foods and describe in 700 words or less what makes your menudo the best. NOTE: The entry period for this contest is over.

Juanita’s Foods, founded in 1946, manufactures and sells a variety of authentic canned Mexican soups, sauces and hominy products. This privately held company also has a heart for philanthropic endeavors and is committed to supporting the community in various outreaches.
