Announcing The First Ever Smashin’ Fashion Show

HOUSTON, TEXAS (May 28th, 2014)— Image expert Sarah Shah is challenging 10 local fashion stylists to create looks that fit and flatter real-world-sized women during the first-ever Smashin’ Fashion Show—Houston’s Best Stylist Competition. The competition will take place on July 31st at The Art Institute of Houston.

Typical fashion shows have the same kinds of models. Waifish, tall, young—each purposefully selected, based on their scant measurements and lack of curves, to be a blank canvas for the designer’s vision to come alive. Trouble is, the rest of us aren’t so “blank.” Sarah Shah will educate and challenge 10 stylists on her principles of Dress Yourself Skinny strategy and then turn them loose to style head-to-toe looks for real-world-sized models for The Smashin’ Fashion Show event. The grand-prize winning stylist, selected by a panel of industry insiders, will win $1,000. Professional photos of the stylists’ ensembles will be provided to them for use in their portfolio. Stylist applications are being accepted through June 20th and limited spots are available.

Models will be provided from Shah’s Runway For The Rest Of Us workshop, which teaches regular people how to walk the runway and pose like a pro. Participants will work with a stylist for the duration of their experience and take home professional photos of their triumphant strut down the runway. Registration for Runway For The Rest Of Us is open through June 20th.

The Smashin’ Fashion Show—Houston’s Best Stylist Competition is created by Shah and produced in conjunction with Blinc by Bambi Lynn, creator of Fashion Houston, and in partnership with The Art Institute of Houston - North. Held at The Art Institute of Houston’s Greenway Plaza-area campus, the show will feature The Art Institute-North students in fashion, design, media arts and culinary roles.
