On April 20th, Chicago-based fashion industry consultant Jane Hamill presented to The Art Institute of Indianapolis Fashion Design students on  ‘5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Clothing Line.’ This topic is very timely for our community, as new brands keep popping up (and disappearing too).

“Hamill is a successful ex-clothing designer and retailer who saw a growing need for information as well as specific step-by-step strategies to start and run a profitable fashion business without losing your shirt – or your mind. Hamill offers in-personal consultations as well, as teleseminars, and travels to speak as well.

Jane ran successful women’s wholesale clothing line and boutique and her work has been seen in CNN, NPR, Fox News, InStyle, Entrepreneur, Lucky, etc. Her clothing line was carried in stores across the country, including Macy’s, Saks, Bloomingdale’s, etc. After 14 years and 2 kids, she sold her wholesale and retail business and launched Fashion Brain Academy. She loves every minute of helping other entrepreneurs work on their dream businesses.”

Hamill says, "I loved my visit to Ai and meeting the students and entrepreneurs of Indianapolis. The audience was so welcoming, interested, and engaged in the topic we were discussing. I was really impressed with students who'd been up since 5:00 am to do a TV shoot, attended the event with me, and after THAT, they even went to another class! Talk about dedication."

“The speaker was wonderful! I was really glad that my students got to hear a true story of success from someone who is working and thriving in the industry.” - Gary D. Stephens Jr., Fashion Design Faculty

Check out the video here, hopefully before you come to the event, so you’ll have a great list of questions to ask our fashion startup expert!
