In December 2017, The Art Institute of California—Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University, hosted the third annual Jolly Holiday (and Little Chefs Academy) on campus.

The event celebrated and welcomed the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California friends and families, including those at the Inland Empire oncology units and treatment centers. Located in Loma Linda, the Childhood Cancer Foundation of Southern California is a non-profit organization offering support to families who have a child with cancer.

The evening spread across 4 rooms, hallways, and a kitchen, with each area filled with activities, refreshments, and more for the 200+ guests in attendance. Activities included:

  • Gingerbread house decorating, led by culinary students from Dr. John Luer’s Leadership and Organizational Behavior class
  • Writing letters to Santa

  • Games and crafts led by campus departments and the radio station AM590

  • A hot chocolate bar

  • Holiday movies

  • Holiday carols sung by Ai students

We were also joined by Bing Wong Elementary School students who created laser cut ornaments to decorate with the children at the event. Bing Wong teacher, Mrs. Emerson, and their vice principal, Ms. Sauls, assisted with the activity.

Also in attendance was special guest, Sherlock, the Community Affairs K9 from the San Bernardino Police Department. Sherlock was joined by Lieutenant Michael Madden, Lieutenant Vicki Cervantes, and Community Engagement Officer, Eileen Hards.

Santa, with a sleigh full of presents, even stopped by the festivities to meet with each family for pictures. Every child at the event received a toy, made possible through donations from Ai California - Inland Empire faculty and staff, from the California Highway Patrol - Inland Division’s CHiPs for Kids, and the Mattel Toy Store in San Bernardino. Larger prizes such as bikes and Barbie’s Dream House were raffled off by Mattel and the California Highway Patrol.

Ai California—Inland Empire is excited to partner with these same great organizations next year for the fourth annual event and hopes to continue to support the needs of the Childhood Cancer Foundation and their mission. To check out pictures from the event, please visit our Facebook page.
