Was there a defining moment when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?

In high school, my mother took me to see a re-release of an old historic movie featuring some of the most brilliant costumes ever created. I was completely mesmerized by the corsets, crinolines, bustles, frock coats, and hats. I knew then that costume design was what I wanted to do.

What’s the most important thing you impart to students to help them succeed in class and the real world?

Many obstacles will get in your way, and the only way to get to the end of the path is to persevere.

What’s the most critical advice you would offer any student embarking on a creative career?

Take criticism as an opportunity to improve...and remember the criticism will follow you your entire professional life. Being resilient will enable you to carry on.
