Chef Liz Thompson on Smashd.co

(Inland Empire, September 2015)  Chef Liz Thompson from The Art Institute of California – Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University spoke with Susan Johnston, a writer for Smashd.co, regarding the trend in ticketed restaurants including how they work, who they can appeal to, and how this business model can benefit both patrons and operators.


Smashd.co was launched as a partnership between Troy Carter, the former manager for Lady Gaga, John Legend, Meghan Trainor and Lori Kozlowski, a former writer/editor at Forbes who focused on entrepreneurs in Los Angeles. The site covers culture, technology and media arts, and is geared towards young adults. The site has 52,143 unique monthly visitors.


Chef Thompson has been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years. Her background includes restaurant ownership and years of food marketing as well. She has an MBA in marketing in addition to a culinary degree, and launched a highly successful restaurant named The Pig, which was voted “Best BBQ in L.A.” by Los Angeles Magazine in 2002.
