Students Carve Up Wins at Annual Watermelon Festival

Culinary students from The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University, won big at the 53rd Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club Watermelon Festival

Culinary students from The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of California – Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University, won big at the 53rd Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club Watermelon Festival, held July 19-20 at Santa Anita Park. Students from the Sculpting Club presented watermelon carving demonstrations and won four awards: Andrea Zamora * took first place for Most Intricate, Blanca Vasquez* won first place for Most Humorous, and Sandra Cardenas* took first place for Most Whimsical and was named overall winner encompassing all categories. Each winner received a certificate, $100 and book on vegetable carving.

This year marked the second time the campus participated in the event. The students also sold their carvings to raise money for the on-campus Sculpting Club. For more information on the festival, visit http://lionswatermelonfestival.com/location/
