Juan Garcia, a graduate of The Art Institute of California – Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University (Bachelor of Science, Graphic Design, 2012), is a lifelong Inland Empire resident who bought a house in San Bernardino last year. So after the mass shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., on Dec. 2 that left 14 people dead, he was devastated.

Taking inspiration from San Bernardino’s iconic Arrowhead landmark, Garcia put the message “SB Strong 12.02.15” inside an arrowhead and shared it to the I Love San Bernardino Facebook group. He intended the logo to be a way for residents to do something, even if it was simply a gesture.

Well the logo (and it’s symbolism) turned out to be a big hit, being shared hundreds of times on social media within only a few hours. Garcia’s SB Strong logo was prominently featured at the vigil at San Manuel Stadium. At the same time, the #SBStrong hashtag was growing in popularity on Twitter and Facebook. The San Bernardino Sun even interviewed Garcia and did a piece on him and the logo titled “#SBStrong logo, hashtag rises from ashes of San Bernardino mass shooting.” Here is a link to the article: http://www.sbsun.com/general-news/20151205/sbstrong-logo-hashtag-rises-from-ashes-of-san-bernardino-mass-shooting

Although he wasn’t present at the site of the attacks, he’s familiar with the Inland Regional Center, having graduated from The Art Institute of California - Inland Empire, immediately adjacent to it. SB Strong shirts will be sold online and at the San Manuel Stadium for $20 to help benefit the victims, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the San Bernardino United Relief Fund.
