Inland Empire Grads Host “Street Glyphics” Local Artist Showcase Inland Empire Grads Host “Street Glyphics” Local Artist Showcase

In 2013, students in an Advanced Layout class at The Art Institute of California—Inland Empire, a campus of Argosy University, collaborated to create “Untapped Hiphop” magazine. The publication was the brainchild of David Williams and Justin Valdivia, who both earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Graphic & Web Design in 2016.  They invited Furman Newby to join the publication a few months later—and now the publication is making an impact in the San Bernardino community. Furman is a fellow 2016 grad, having earned a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts & Animation.

While still in school, the trio had an idea to host an art event that would showcase local talent. They shared their idea with instructor John Luer, who challenged them to move forward with the concept.

They approached the City of San Bernardino and the San Bernardino Fine Arts Commission, and were granted funds to hold the event. David, Justin, and Furman named the event “Street Glyphics” and it took place on July 16, 2016 on The Art Institute of California—Inland Empire’s campus. The event allowed local artists to express their creativity in a positive environment.
