Transfer Students

This is where you belong.

Some students transfer to Miami International University of Art & Design because of our convenient class schedules that include an online option, or our scholarship and grant opportunities. But many are looking for something else—a more creative, hands-on, and collaborative experience. Whatever your reason, if you’re a high school graduate or you’ve earned your high school equivalency certification (such as the GED®), you may be eligible. We’ll help make sure that you transfer all applicable college credits*, so you can avoid repeating courses and be placed appropriately.

GED® is a registered mark of American Council on Education.
*Transfer credit is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The Art Institutes offers no guarantee that credit earned at another institution will be accepted into a program of study offered by The Art Institutes.

Where do I start?

Contact the Admissions Department at Miami International University of Art & Design. They’ll help you work through the process, answer your questions, and provide all the information you need.

Credit Transfers

Will my credits transfer to Miami International University of Art & Design?

Our transfer credit process may award you credit for your previous college-level education. We offer credit for your life experiences and military service. Once we have a copy of your college transcript it will be reviewed to determine the incoming transfer credit. We encourage you to submit all official transcripts for review.

Interschool Transfers

You’ll be considered an interschool transfer student once you complete the quarter at the originating school, and immediately start at your new school following the normal school break. If you have a gap in enrollment, you’ll be considered a new student at the new school. This page covers many of the basic issues involved in transferring from one school to another within The Art Institutes.

Every Art Institutes school has a contact person to help transferring students, usually in the Readmissions Office but in some cases through various other departments.
Credit Transfer Information
Programs offered by one school within The Art Institutes system may be similar, but not identical to, programs offered at another. This is due to differences in state laws, use of different instructional models, and the needs of local employers. Therefore, if you decide to transfer to another school within The Art Institutes system, not all of the credits you’ve earned at your current or prior location may transfer.

In the U.S. higher education system, the receiving institution takes into account such factors as course content, grades, accreditation and licensing when determining transferability of credit.
Financial Issues

Once your account balance is paid in full to The Art Institutes school you are attending, your transcripts will be sent to another school within the system. Payment plans or financial arrangements made with one school may not apply at another. You should discuss your financial status with your Student Financial Services Office before finalizing your transfer status. We recommend that you not relocate until you have a completed Student Financial Plan at your new school.

Steps to a Successful Interschool Transfer
  • Submit a completed withdraw form to the Registrar at your original Art Institutes school. Indicate that you intend to leave at the end of the quarter.
  • Contact the Readmissions department at the school you wish to transfer to and get a Release of Information form; submit that form to the Readmissions department at the school you wish to transfer to before any transfer of information can occur.
  • The necessary items should be faxed to the receiving school within three business days. You may need to follow up with various departments and tie up any loose ends that may delay this process.
  • Complete and return all application materials sent to you by the new school you plan to attend.
  • Register for classes and complete a Financial Plan at your new school.
  • Attend orientation.

Students transferring to a school within The Art Institutes with a "branch" campus relationship with the original school within The Art Institutes: The original school must send the entire file to the new school while keeping a copy of that file.

Students entering an Art Institutes school as a NEW student after having graduated from another school within The Art Institutes: As a courtesy, the Registrar at the original school may send copies of requested academic documents to the new school. The new school should request the original college or high school transcripts or GED® from the previous Art Institutes school attended. The original school should keep a copy of college or high school transcript or GED® in the file with a notation that the original has been forwarded to the "new" school. All other documents should be newly filled out at the intended school. However, if the student has graduated with a bachelor's level degree from the original Art Institutes school, the student need only present his college transcript to show proof of bachelor's degree; proof of high school transcript or GED® is not necessary.
