June 5, 2015
(Miami, June 2015) In honor of Men’s Cancer Awareness Month, Miami International University of Art & Design will host and showcase garments created with vintage ties in collaboration with Macy’s South Beach and Not 1 Forgotten, an organization created to raise awareness of men’s cancer and encourages men to get regular checkups. The event takes place on June 11, 2015 at 6pm at the University, 1501 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida. Not 1 Forgotten and Macy’s South Beach will also have a raffle where they’ll be giving away four baskets and two art pieces.
Students from the fashion programs will showcase 15-20 garments created from men’s vintage ties and incorporating the organization’s blue and black necktie into their design. The garments will be judged and the top 10 will be selected to be on display at Macy’s South Beach store for their commemorative event featuring men’s cancer survivors on June 18, 2015 from 6pm-8pm The winning students will receive a Macy’s gift card and bragging rights. The garments will be on display at Macy’s South Beach through Father’s Day.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to be involved with such an amazing cause. There have been so many of us impacted by cancer and men’s cancer in particular, this is a great way for us and our students to create awareness and give back,” says Charlene Parsons, fashion director for Miami International University of Art & Design.
