On March 16 2017, Miami International University of Art & Design will present a Latin American photography contest titled #RetoMestizo2016. The contest is curated by Marco Caridad, who earned a Master of Arts in Design & Media Management from the school in 2016. The exhibit is presented in partnership with philanthropists Alexander Gonzalez, Daniela Picado, and Santiago Klein. There will be a reception at the school on March 16 at 6 pm—the goal of which is to elevate the stereotypical image of Latinos in The United States of America.
“I have made it my mission to highlight Latino culture through this award exhibition designed to foster acceptance of diversity. The exhibition will feature 100+ images of the best photographers in LATAM with the five final pieces available to be voted on that evening,” says Marco Caridad, exhibit curator.
Over 100 images submitted for consideration. A judging panel of Latin American photographers narrowed the submissions down to the top five pieces. On March 16, attendees will help to choose the photographer who is awarded the “Best in Show” title.
“Miami University of Art & Design is a firm supporter of not only diversity, but of artists in general. We are thrilled to host this amazing contest and exhibition showcasing top Latin American photographers. We are especially proud to be partnering with one of our very own alums for this exhibit [Marco Caridad],” says Erika Fleming, president of Miami International University of Art & Design.
