Miami International University of Art & Design Hosts Small Works Art Exhibition
November 3, 2015
(Miami, October 2015) The Office of Academics and Transformation, Division of Visual and Performing Arts at Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), presented the Small Works district-wide art exhibition at Miami International University of Art & Design (MIU) from October 1, 2015 to November 2, 2015.
The exhibition highlighted the artistic talents of M-DCPS’ students in grades 2-12. M-DCPS students, teachers, administrators and the general public were invited to a reception for the young artists on October 17, 2015. The event was open to the public at no cost.
Small Works highlights M-DCPS’s commitment to using the arts as a tool for learning and expression. Students were challenged to create small masterpieces (9x9x9 inches) without limitation to theme, genre, style, or art movement. All visual arts teachers were invited to submit up to five student artworks and 200 finalists were chosen by a peer group of judges from thousands of entries.
Artwork from the 19 elementary schools, 5 K-8 centers, 11 middle schools, 9 senior high schools and 11 charter schools were included in the exhibition:
