My classes are designed to provide students with the functional knowledge of history and academic practices, which can serve them well even if they do not use specific historical methods in their daily lives. Stephanie Laffer , Faculty , Miami International University of Art & Design

What would you say is the defining moment in your life when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?

While I am not a creative professional, I do like to share my passion for history with those who are more creative, in this case, my students.

Is there a class assignment that exemplifies your approach to teaching and mentoring?

My class is specifically designed to allow students to make connections between their chosen fields and mine. I have students explain their research on a chosen topic through the use of the mediums used in their studies or programs.

What role does collaboration contribute to students' success, especially when students from other programs contribute to the same project?

I teach General Education, so all of my students come from different programs. This broad, cross-section of students allows for different analyses depending on the students’ backgrounds and interests.

In your opinion, what is the single most important thing you impart to your students to help them succeed in your class and in the real world? Alternatively, what is the most critical advice you would offer any student as he / she embarks on a creative career?

Again, while I am not a creative professional, I love sharing my passion for history with those who are. My classes are designed to provide students with the functional knowledge of history and academic practices, which can serve them well even if they do not use specific historical methods in their daily lives.
