[Miami, FL November 13, 2015] –For the second year in a row, a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree student from the Graphic Design program designed the map/guide of fairs and galleries for use during Miami Art Week December 1-7pm. New this year: a free mobile app designed by BFA in Web Design & Interactive Media students to go with it available for download from both the Google Play and the Apple stores.

This year’s Miami Art Week map was designed by BFA in Graphic Design student Ericka Garcia who provides a contemporary, yet edgy and vibrant design that showcases over 40 fairs and galleries, local communities of interest and a sampling of local restaurants. The map also showcases sponsors which include presenting sponsor, Spectrum Miami Art Fair, the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Art of Black Miami, Miami Downtown Development Authority (Miami DDA), City of Miami, Ace Graphics, Inc. and Art Circuits Miami Guide. The 15,000 printed maps will be distributed to over 200 locations around Miami in anticipation of the upcoming week.

In addition to the printed maps, there is a free mobile app that is available for download from Google Play and the Apple store that provides similar information for those who prefer to see it on their smart phones. The mobile app was created as part of the Mobile Devices II course taught by instructor Rima Gerhard. “The students were tasked with creating a consumer focused map that provided information about the fairs and galleries during Miami Art Week; they were also tasked with providing an ‘Explore’ section that provides the user with local areas of interest and restaurants as well as directing users to the City of Miami trolley site for trolley stops and routes; there really wasn’t anything like this that was available at no charge” says Marcia Gomez, director of campus relations.

Participating Web Design & Interactive Media Students are as follows:

Brad Cummins

Bradley Evans

Erica Munoz

Herodney Emile

Jose Gomez

Julissa Roa

Carlos Cardozo

Katherine Sanchez

Svetlana Pantepajeva

“We are so proud of the work our students have done – the printed map is very impressive and the mobile app propels the map to the next level – it showcases their talent, creativity and skill,” says Erika Fleming, president of Miami International University of Art & Design.
