Reports for Total Traffic Network on Multiple South Florida Radio Stations

Adonis Lugo is an on-air anchor for iHeart Media. He reports for the total traffic network for south Florida radio stations Channel 7, Y100, Hits 97.3, ESPN Sports Radio, Big 105.9, 99JAMZ, and 790 The Ticket. Prior to this position, Adonis worked for NBC Sports as a production assistant.

He describes his typical workday as “very eventful.” He goes live on the radio at 5 am. “In news and traffic, anything can happen so each day is unique. Depending on the day, I can either be live on the radio, get called to the airport to film in the traffic helicopter, or produce content for my fellow anchors back at the station.”

Earning a degree can be challenging, but Adonis recommends that students push through it. “Remember that you love what you’re doing. I can recall many times when I was super stressed out in school during midterms. But the fact that I loved what I was learning helped me to get through it.”

Adonis adds that the most challenging part of his job is the risk taking. “I had to learn to take risks and just go for it. I noticed that when a real opportunity opens, it goes quickly. So the best advice I can give is just go for it. Don’t wait because you will lose out.”

Today he works with people who he describes as “legends in the production industry.” He tries to learn as much as he can from them. “It is still surreal to me that I am working alongside these amazing people. The fact that I can gain all of this knowledge and I have the support behind me pushes me to accomplish my goals.”

Adonis, who in 2016 earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film from Miami International University of Art & Design, says that his education was enhanced by the support of his instructors. “They were the ones who helped me to prepare for the real world and taught me the fundamentals of the industry.” He mentions that the first time he saw the benefits of his hard work was when, as a student, he was presented with the Student Leadership Award. “That was definitely a milestone in my life. The fact that I was able to inspire others pushes me to work hard.”
