Students develop project management skills by identifying a client whom they will provide a creative solution. In doing so, the student is pressed to utilize the project management skills they learn in class. This in turn provides greater structure and probability of success to their creative endeavors while simultaneously giving the student a reinforcing experience in project management.
How does collaboration contribute to students’ success—particularly when students from various programs work together?
Cross program collaboration, particularly with team projects, develops students understanding of many critical skills they will need to be successful. Among those skills is the ability to work within a diverse team setting. Students not only experience cultural diversity but also skill diversity in such team projects. Students also learn where their skills fit on the creative business landscape. They see themselves as both a contributor and principle member of a team. Finally, they learn to communicate concepts and ideas to individuals of varying levels of industry specific knowledge. In summary, they learn to operate in a non-uniform environment that is more reflective of a modern global economy.
