(Miami, August 2015) Miami International University of Art & Design partnered with Farrey’s Lighting & Bath to sponsor the 3rd Lighting Design Contest for students currently enrolled in the school’s Lighting Design Class. The contest, which set to reveal Miami’s top upcoming design talents, announced a winner on August 12 and was featured in the Sun Sentinel blog SouthFlorida.com.

Oriana Cascarano was the first place winner receiving a $1,500 scholarship through The Education Foundation for “Spine Lamp,” a geometric luminaire built with 24 lighting pieces, inspired by the human spine.

Calvin Hrezik was the runner-up contestant receiving a $600 scholarship from Florida lighting sales agency Light’n Up for “Deconstructed Deco,” a piece influenced by Miami’s Art Deco architecture. His lamp was crafted to resemble an industrial skeletal cage, unveiling the framework of Miami’s Art Deco foundation.

Both Oriana and Calvin are students in the Bachelor of Fine Arts, Interior Design program at Miami International University of Art & Design.

The original designs were evaluated by a team of judges from Farrey’s and Miami International University of Art & Design which were reviewed on the aspects of originality, concept development, expected marketability and presentation. The class project was supervised by Professor Sable Stroud and Academic Department Director for Design, Ricardo Navarro.
