Oversees Retail Team, Maintains Visually Appealing Store Displays

Monique Robinson is a manager at BCBGMAXAZRIA, responsible for creating a pleasant shopping environment for customers while building and maintaining positive relationships. She also hires and helps employees to grow professionally and maintains a visually appealing store by planning and executing floor sets. Prior to this position, she worked for JC Penney and David’s Bridal.

A typical work day includes styling current and existing clients while developing her team and ensuring that sales goals are met. She recommends that current students stay positive. “I faced obstacles during my time in school but talking to my guidance counselor and peers really helped. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.” Monique adds that she is also challenged to balance her personal and professional lives.  “It is imperative that you know how to separate the two. I learned that because my staff was trained properly, I could rely on them to uphold the standards of the company when I have to be away from the business. My employees are a reflection of me and what I've taught them.”

Monique states that 100% dedication is required to excel in fashion. “I was enrolled in school while managing a store. At times it was trying, but it gave me better insight into the retail industry.” She says that allowing her team to be creative encourages a strong bond between the employees. “I let them know that they matter and that their opinions and ideas matter. We are a team and everyone is important.”

She was excited to be featured in the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com for a fashion segment called Fashion Flash. “It felt great to be recognized as a retail professional and it was a great experience that helped me develop more professional relationships.”

Monique earned a Bachelor of Science in Fashion & Retail Management from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh—Online Programs in 2017. “My education gave me the leverage and tools I needed to further my career. I started out at a sales associate at BCBGMAXAZRIA and left briefly to pursue a career in visual merchandising. I loved the company so much that I went back to be a store manager right after enrolling in The Art Institute of Pittsburgh—Online Programs.” She adds that her education helped her to become a better manager.
