Ai California—Orange County Hosts Gaming Industry Experts

The Art Institute of California—Orange County, a campus of Argosy University, hosted a “How we Design!” panel interview featuring gaming experts Duane Loose and John Shoopack.

Duane Loose is an award-winning industry leader, with decades of experience as an art director, industrial designer, and educator. His credits include art direction for Electronic Arts’ “Medal of Honor” and “Command and Conquer” AAA game franchises. He was also a Production Designer/VFX Supervisor for the “Bionicle” animated feature films produced by Lego/Miramax and Sony’s hit web series “Afterworld” and “Gemini Division.” 

Joe Shoopack is a 25-year game industry veteran, a former Director of Artistic Development for Sony Online Entertainment, and former Art Director at Sony 989 Studios and Blue Sky Software. He's worked on over 65 released games and expansions for PC, Playstation 1-4, Sega Genesis, and Atari 7800. Franchises he has contributed to include Everquest, Star Wars Galaxies, Planetside, DC Universe Online, H1Z1. John is an adjunct professor of Game Art & Design for The Art Institute of California—San Diego, a campus of Argosy University.

Together, these gaming industry experts offered valuable advice on how students can better prepare for the entertainment industry and how to be better interactive and visual designers. The creative giants also shared how they go about creating new worlds and designing visuals on a grand scale.

After the panel interview, Loose and Shoopack stayed to review student work, providing students with constructive feedback on how to strengthen their portfolios.
