On December 9, 2017, a new sculpture named The Machine, by Heather Dutton, was installed at East Jesus, a California Registered Museum in Imperial County, CA. Heather is a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design student at The Art Institute of California, Orange County, a campus of Argosy University.

Located just outside of Niland, CA, the East Jesus art compound where Dutton’s sculpture was installed has been featured in several  films, including the multiple award-winning documentary by Italian director Gianfranco Rosi, Below Sea Level (2008) and the 2007 film written and directed by Sean Penn, Into The Wild. East Jesus is also featured in Kesha’s music video, Praying. It is a wacky, wonderful, disturbing, and beautiful place filled with what Henry James called “the madness of art.”

The Machine is a huge steel and glass sculpture that, according to Heather, represents “our culture’s worship of the clock and the pressure to conform to society.” Heather was inspired to created the sculpture while taking the General Education course, “Visual Language and Culture” as well as by her own unique drive and vision.
