Orange County Culinary Instructor and Students Support Local Veterans This Holiday Season
December 21, 2016
Recently, Jennifer Minichiello, culinary instructor, The Art Institute of California—Orange County, a campus of Argosy University, and a team of culinary students joined hundreds of volunteers and community restaurants at the Veterans Administration Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System’s holiday event honoring veterans and active duty personnel.
The Veteran Holiday Celebration (VHC) tradition began 24 years ago when a group of men wanted to make a difference in the lives of local veterans. They discovered that many veterans had nowhere to go and no one to celebrate the holidays with. With turkey dinners in hand, they were able to create an evening of gratitude and love for the first 30 veterans they served.
Since those early beginnings, the VHC has grown by the thousands. This event, sponsored by the non-profit organization Veterans’ Holiday Celebration Inc., creates an annual community-based celebration by providing food, gifts, entertainment, and heartfelt gratitude for all veterans and active duty personnel and their families to honor their commitment, dedication, and service to our country.
Earlier this year, Minichiello received the American Culinary Federation Orange County Chapter’s Chef of the Year Award.
