Orange County Faculty Member Mentors Culinary Team to First Place Finish

Chef Jennifer Minichiello, adjunct faculty, Culinary at The Art Institute of California—Orange County, a campus of Argosy University, and the high school students she mentors from Santa Ana Valley High School’s Culinary Academy, won first place in the national “Cooking Up Change” competition. The event was held in Washington, DC, where Chef Minichiello’s team presented to Congress and members of the James Beard Foundation.
“Cooking up Change” challenges high school culinary students across the country to create a healthy and delicious school lunch that meets national nutrition standards—on a tight budget. Using only ingredients and equipment commonly available for school food service, students create recipes that appeal to their peers and can easily be replicated on a large scale in real school kitchens.
