How do you weave your professional background into the classroom experience?
I’ve made it my mission to help students learn to use digital media technology to communicate, and to help them find creative solutions to problems. My background spans communication, education and health informatics. I use that experience to show students how emerging technologies are applied in various domains.
What class assignment exemplifies your approach to teaching and mentoring?
My goal is to motivate my students to own their work. In my e-commerce class, I ask them to build a website that’ll go live and sell actual products. This project pushes students to work hard, while allowing them to enjoy their work.
How does collaboration contribute to students’ success—particularly when students from various programs work together?
Teamwork is helps students understand that, in the real world, collaboration is the way things work; they learn to respect and value other people’s ideas and opinions; and they learn that everyone in the group has to contribute equally for the project to succeed.
