History of Phoenix

The Art Institute of Phoenix opened in September 1995. Today it occupies 72,000 square feet of creative space for students in design, media arts, culinary, and fashion programs.

Educate and prepare students for creative careers

The Art Institute of Phoenix is home to industry-related equipment and software that provides students with real-world experience. These include:

  • Computer labs
  • Specialized labs for students studying design, fashion, or media arts
  • Life Drawing labs
  • Video Studio
  • Art Gallery
  • Supply Store
  • Professional Kitchens, including Baking & Pastry and A la Carte kitchens
  • Library
  • Gallery Café student run restaurant

Many students choose to live in school-sponsored housing located close to The Art Institute of Phoenix. The fully-furnished apartments include onsite parking, professional property management, swimming pools and Jacuzzis, fitness centers, and an internet café. Residence Life Coordinators are available onsite to help students with questions as they transition to college life. Students who live in school-sponsored housing are also invited to socials throughout the year.

To build relationships and gain experience in their areas of study, many students participate in special events and workshops, join student groups, and work in internships within the Phoenix area. The Art Institute of Phoenix offers the following services to help students during their time at the school:

  • Special events/workshops on health or wellness related areas
  • Information on human services in the local area
  • Assistance with study habits, time management, stress management, communication, problem solving, and the transition to school
  • Coordination of disability services for students who qualify in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Referral to short term counseling provided by the Student Assistance Program for students in need of emotional support or guidance
