It’s been an exciting few months for Jonathan T. Winbush. His custom text animations for National Geographic Channel’s true-crime docuseries, “Badlands, Texas” premiered in fall 2015. And on January 14, 2016, theatergoers viewed his title animation work for the film “Norm of the North.”

Jonathan began working on the film at the end of 2014, when he was commissioned by the creative marketing agency Doubleplusgood to create previz (previsuaization) title work on the film’s first trailer. Previz is the first step in concepting a project.

He ended up creating the titles for the feature film itself—these animations were also used in the film’s advertising. Additionally, Jonathan also worked with Doubleplusgood to create a full animation for the logo of Splash Entertainment, the animation company that produced “Norm of the North” with Lionsgate. “I did a full animation on it which [was revealed] before the film,” Jonathan says.

Jonathan is the owner and visual director of his own motion graphics company, WINBUSH, located in Laguna Niguel, California. He’s won seven Telly awards, four PromaxBDA awards, one BAFTA award, and one video game marketing award nomination.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 2006, and says that “nothing beats the hands on training [at the school] and being able to interact with others on projects.”

Updated on 2/1/2016 to include information about Jonathan's employer.
