As Season 9 of Syfy’s “Face Off” continues, one Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduate is still in the running to determine who can win it all. The show pits special effects makeup artists against each other in elaborate challenges. The winner earns a grand prize and the honor of being named “Hollywood's next great effects artist.”

“Face Off” airs Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. ET and was recently named “Best Reality Series” at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Competitor Jordan Patton, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Entertainment Design from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 2012, is still on the show, surviving multiple eliminations. As a student, he won the “Best Portfolio” award and is currently making original masks and tattoo art for haunted houses and collectors.

Omar Sfreddo, who in 1999 earned an Associate of Specialized Technology in Industrial Design Technology from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, was eliminated from the show on August 4. Omar is currently working as an art director in Hollywood, Florida. He specializes in special effects makeup and his cinematic credits include work on "Blade II," "The Chronicles of Riddick," "Sky High" and "The Last Samurai." He’s also currently developing his own line of masks.

This season of “Face Off” has already proven to be challenging. In a recent episode, competitors were tasked with creating a unique Siren creature using a marine animal as inspiration. In another, they designed alien-animal hybrids.
