(PITTSBURGH, PA January 2016) – The Art Institute of Pittsburgh student Vince Brady (Associate of Science in Culinary Arts degree program) is headed to the S.Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Competition finals.

Brady secured a spot after outcooking seven other culinary students at the recent central regional contest in Chicago. His winning dish was Crispy Skinned Duck Breast and Braised Duck Ravioli with Sautéed Winter Root Vegetable and Beet Silk.

The finals will take place March 11-14 in Napa Valley. The winner of the three-day competition will get a one-year apprenticeship “under a reputable chef,” according to competition organizers.

Brady was mentored by Ai Pittsburgh Chef Joe Bello, who noted the student’s “creative spark.” “Vince had some great competition with fellow young chefs, but he remained calm and professional through it all,” Bello said. “He was a hard worker dedicated to perfection and spent countless hours detailing his plate. Working with Vince was fantastic. His energetic creativity was a pleasure to coach.”

Brady was featured in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. You can read the article and get his recipe here.
