The answer to this curious question won an Art Institute of Pittsburgh student an 18-wheel semi full of one of America’s favorite toaster pastries.

The winning answer: I would make pop art from Pop-Tarts™, said Tyler Kozar, a graphic design student at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh.

Kellogg’s national “Pop∙It Forward” competition garnered over 7,000 entries. Tyler’s entry won as a finalist, and then as the official winner when Pop-Tart™ Facebook fans voted via the “Like” function on the social media page.

On March 2, 2011, the Pop-Tart™ semi will deliver Tyler’s prize. Student volunteers will help unload.

Tyler will walk the talk by creating pop art out of his winnings. He won’t be alone as a team of students will help him create the Pop Art Pop-Tart™ gallery which will be unveiled and on exhibit at the Gallery at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh at 420 Boulevard of the Allies. Open to the public at no charge, the gallery reception is on April 8, 2011 from 4pm to 9pm. On the gallery reception menu: Pop Tart™ samplings, of course!

Get ready to see 2D artwork, 3D sculptures, dresses, etc. made out of the Pop-Tart™ foil wrappers and Pop-Tart™ boxes. The artwork is inspired by famous pop artists such as Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Roy Lichtenstein.

So will Tyler really eat his one million Pop-Tarts™? “I am donating the remaining Pop-Tarts™ to local food banks and charities,” he said.

The artwork will be placed up for auction the night of the reception with all proceeds donated to local charities.
