I'm constantly amazed at what happens when creative people work together toward a common goal. George R. "Bob" Martin, Jr. , English Instructor , The Art Institute of Portland
Was there a defining moment when you knew you were destined to become a creative professional?
For me, it was when I started teaching writing while I was studying rhetoric and philosophy. The concrete merging of theory and practice began an enduring fascination with the creative process. I’ve been teaching for more than 30 years, and I still love helping students discover their own creative abilities with language.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I’ve maintained a life-long avocation in live theater as a director, set designer, and sound and light designer. The collaboration it takes to pull off a successful theatrical production has instilled in me a respect for the talents of other artists—and a delight in sharing the success. Whether working with students or colleagues in the theater, I’m constantly amazed at what happens when creative people work together toward a common goal.
