Karen Clark art

Gallery Opening: Art + Science: Karen Clark

June 1, 2017
5:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The Art Institute of Portland shines a spotlight on artist Karen Clark.

Longtime Ai Portland faculty Karen Clark spent Fall 2016 intensely researching microbiology, and created a series of sketches, drawings, and paintings inspired by their bizarre appearance.

Microscopic organisms such as bacteria, protozoa, and fungi form fascinating shapes, textures, and colors that we usually don’t see.  Although they live all around us, and in many cases feed on us (!), most people are unaware of their existence.  Clark’s paintings and drawings take a closer look at these phenomenal microbes.  This exhibit also includes work from earlier series, showing her ongoing focus on nature.

The Pocket Gallery at the Art Institute of Portland is located within the foyer of the school. The gallery showcases students, artist groups and solo artists. Its address is 1122 NW Davis Street, Portland, OR 97209, and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Please join The Art Institute of Portland First Thursday Opening Party on Thursday, June 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Karen received a M.F.A. in Drawing and Photography from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York.  Her website is www.karenjclark.com.
