Etiquette Dinner in Support of Campus Quality Enhancement Plan
June 6, 2017
The Art Institute of San Antonio hosted an Etiquette Dinner on May 18th to support our Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) focused on professional public speaking. The Quality Enhancement Plan for The Art Institute of Houston and its branch campuses is an oral communication across the curriculum project entitled Speaking by Design. The goal of Speaking by Design is to improve students’ ability to communicate verbally through the development of effective presentation skills within disciplines. The Etiquette dinner encompassed the public speaking goals of the QEP but also extended to developing soft skills necessary for a professional dining setting.
The dinner was orchestrated by Chef Williams’ A la Carte Class and supported by a team of faculty trainers that addressed the agenda of professional dress, professional conversation, and dinning etiquette. Mrs. Rebecca Kerr, who teaches public speaking for the campus, coached the group in their conversation skills, introductions, and handshaking protocol for a dinner setting. Chef Michael Becquet addressed the importance of proper etiquette during the meal including the use of service ware and placement of items on the table. Mrs. Karen Henry hosted a Fashion show to demonstrate professional dress for a dinner setting.
