On September 8, 2018, Red restaurant at The Art Institute of San Antonio , a branch of The Art Institute of Houston, raised over $1000 for culinary scholarships for the San Antonio chapter of HEAT ( Hospitality Educators of Texas ). HEAT culinary scholarships are awarded every year for students who follow their passion and pursue degrees in the hospitality and culinary arts industry.

The dinner at Red has been an annual event for several years, and, in 2018, the theme was BBQ from around the world. The event sold out with 50 guests and was nine courses long! It also featured a silent auction with proceeds going to HEAT culinary scholarships.

Students in the Senior Culinary Practicum class planned the logistics of the event, scaled and costed recipes, and served guests in the dining room. Nine culinary educators from Ai San Antonio volunteered to create the unique dishes for the event and were assisted in the kitchen by student volunteers from the San Antonio culinary programs .
