San Antonio Menudo Competition

By: Brenden Mesch Filed under: Culinary

December 21, 2017

The best homemade menudo cooks in the San Antonio area faced each other on Saturday, Dec. 2 on campus as they competed on their journey to become the King or Queen of Menudo in Texas.  Judges included Chef Andrew Gutierrez, Chef Chris Hancock, Juanita’s Foods, as well as popular radio DJ Jesse Lechuga from 92.9 FM.

The event was the first of three statewide homemade menudo tastings organized by Juanita’s Foods and The International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes as part of Vive la Tradición, a competition promoting the culinary tradition of menudo – the savory soup made with beef tripe and hominy, popular at Mexican family celebrations. Contestants have a chance to win $1,000 and a new Kia Soul. This year’s winner in the San Antonio regional was Maria Castillo! Check out more images at #JuanitasFoods and #VivelaTradicion!
