Ai California - San Diego Volunteers Decorate Crisis House Playground

Staff members of The Art Institute of California-San Diego, a campus of Argosy University, have volunteered their time and skills to complete the decorating of the Crisis House playground in El Cajon.

Crisis House is a non-profit Resource Center serving the East County region of San Diego. They provide counseling, emergency, and social services to low income, homeless, and underserved individuals, including a large veteran population as well as many women and children who have survived domestic violence.

In late 2016, Crisis House reached out to Ai California - San Diego to collaborate on the first stage of their new playground project. To help, students drew sea-creatures by hand, which then were later painted and displayed around the perimeter of the playground. The playground will serve as a safe haven for children who have survived domestic abuse.

In July 2017, Ai California - San Diego staff members returned to Crisis House to help finish decorating the playground. They are currently planning another volunteer effort in the fall.

Ai California - San Diego is also proud to be collaborating with Crisis House, as well as three other local non-profit organizations, on a new project entitled 4x4x4—which involves creating art on 4x4” wood panels that will then be organized into a gallery show with a silent auction benefitting the 4 non-profit organizations. More information about 4x4x4 can be found here.
