First opening their doors in 1926, La Valencia Hotel—sometimes called the Pink Lady of La Jolla—has long been a staple of San Diego. Reaching their 90th anniversary last year, the hotel wanted to celebrate in style. A Great Gatsby Gala, featuring Prohibition era cocktails, live music, and lavish costumes, was the perfect fit for the occasion.

For assistance creating unique decor and capturing the full grandeur of the evening, La Valencia Hotel turned to The Art Institute of California–San Diego, a campus of Argosy University. Led by Photography instructor Pam Calore, students in our Fall 2016 Photography course were there to help.

In addition to photographing the event and attendees dressed in stunning period attire, the class hired models and conducted a shoot at the hotel to create images that were then displayed during the event.
