The Art Institute of California—San Diego, a campus of Argosy University, has partnered with the local San Diego chapter of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) to host San Diego Game Jam 2017 from August 25-27, 2017.
One of San Diego’s largest game development events, Game Jam features members of the game development community—including students, professionals, and hobbyists—coming together to create a themed game in 48 hours. Participants will arrive at the event on the evening of Friday, August 25, when the much-anticipated game theme announcement will occur. This reveal will kick off the 48-hour work period, which ends on Sunday, August 27.
After the theme is announced, individuals will form teams of up to six people, with participants having the choice to create a computer game or board game. Participants may use the software available on site or on their personal computers, but cannot reuse any previously developed concepts, assets, or code. Many dedicated game developers will even be camping out on site to get the most out of their 48 hours. Previously, over 100 gamers have participated in the event.
To plan this year’s San Diego Game Jam, IGDA board members collaborated with Director of Campus Relations at The Art Institute of California—San Diego, Lauren Loeffler, a current member of the IGDA.
Meals will be provided to participants throughout the weekend as well as swag bags sponsored by local gaming companies and Brand Alliance. Each game will be judged by a panel of IGDA board members and the winner of San Diego Game Jam 2017 will be announced at the following IGDA meeting.
