Students Visit Local Farm to Learn about Sustainable Agriculture

Recently, The Art Institute of California—San Diego instructor Yat-Long “Sam” Poon provided his students with a hands-on opportunity to learn more about sustainable agriculture. Poon believes that combining lectures with practical experiences is especially beneficial to students.

His summer 2017 environmental science class took several field trips to complement their in-class lectures and projects, including a trip to Wild Willow Farm, a sustainable farm and education center. The farm is located on the border of Mexico and San Diego and has a mission to educate, cultivate, and empower sustainable food communities in San Diego County. 
Students toured the working farm, learned about the farming process and how to grow food, and discussed the importance of maintaining nutrients in soil.

They also participated in group farming activities. The educators at the farm emphasized what it takes to grow food—and seek to remove the disconnect between buying food at a grocery store and where that food comes from.  


The Art Institute of California—San Diego is a campus of Argosy University.
