The projects given in [my] design courses pushed me to give deep thought into design solutions, space planning, and budget solutions. Janeth Cruz Bachelor of Science in Interior Design, 2015 , The Art Institute of California—San Diego, a campus of Argosy University
Designs Corporate Spaces and Provides Interior Solutions for Clients
Janeth Cruz is an interior designer for Tangram Interiors in Los Angeles, California. She designs corporate spaces and provides interior solutions for clients. Janeth says that a typical day in her job includes problem solving, meetings, field measures, product and materials selections, budget and accounting analysis, and rendering. “Collaboration is one of the most important features at work nowadays. If you collaborate with your peers, great ideas and projects can be done.”
Janeth adds that her interior design coursework was similar to what she experiences in the real world—with demanding projects and tight deadlines. “A quarter did not seem to be long enough to finish a project, or sometimes several big ones. Deadlines were sometimes hard to meet, however collaborating with classmates and with the excellent team of teachers helped [me to] achieve outstanding projects and grades. In the end everything was worth it and prepared me to work in the industry.” She emphasizes the need for current students to commit themselves 150% to interior design. “Everything you do in your career is all for you. No one else will enjoy your success [more] than you.”
Janeth, who in 2015 earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from The Art Institute of California—San Diego, says that her education provided the guidance and practical training needed for a career in interior design. “All projects given in [my] design courses pushed me to give deep thought into design solutions, space planning, and budget solutions.” She describes her portfolio show, which took place right before graduation, as the point where she knew her hard work had paid off. “That day I got my first job. Three months later I got a job in an amazing design firm in Los Angeles with a great opportunity to grow as a professional and in my personal life.” She says that her next challenge is to further her education. “The next step is to pursue a Master’s degree with a higher level of completely. Challenge accepted.”
