The Illinois Institute of Art—Schaumburg prepares students for creative careers by providing opportunities to learn and grow while still in school. Students may attend a yearly trip abroad, a leadership retreat, or listen to sponsored speakers talking about art and community issues.

The school's hands-on education is supported by industry relevant computer labs, design labs, software, and equipment, including:

  • Computer labs staffed with trained lab assistants
  • An equipment cage where students may check out electronic media for class projects, including digital cameras and lighting equipment
  • A green screen room
  • Audio recording and mixing suites
  • Video production studio
  • Motion capture studio
  • Gallery for showings of student, faculty, and alumni work
  • A library that contains program-related materials
  • A supply store

Many students choose to live in school-sponsored housing at Tree House Luxury Apartments of Versailles on the Lakes. Located close to the school, the apartments are fully furnished and have kitchens, fitness facilities, and common areas for students to gather.

To build relationships and gain experience in their areas of study, students participate in special events and workshops, join student groups, and work in internships within the Schaumburg area. The school also offers the following volunteer opportunities:

  • DCFS Toy Drive
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Relay for Life, The American Cancer Society
