I created this application as my final project in the Web Animation (WDIM260) class. The assignment was to create a tablet app for a zoological subject. I chose to make an iPad app to teach young children in kindergarten and first grade about koalas, with the goal being that they will become interested in koalas at an early age. My primary purpose with this project is to communicate that koalas are fun, amazing animals that are worth trying to protect. Although this message will not necessarily come through to children that young, it will teach them to love koalas, and hopefully that love will carry on with them as they grow and develop their own ideas and opinions.
Explain what we are seeing in your work and how you went about creating it.
For this project I used Adobe Illustrator to design the layouts and make the graphics, Adobe Photoshop for resizing the images, and Adobe Animate to build and program the app. I started by making concepts for the application’s home page in Illustrator and, once I chose one of my concepts, I started creating the other pages and graphics based on that design. For my interface design I was inspired by a koala's habitat and tried to mimic that in a bright, fun way that would keep children engaged. Once I had the designs of my layouts set, I started working in Animate to bring my designs to life with sounds, animations, and interactive elements.
